About Co. Galway Pre-Planning Reports
Galway County Council is offering this free service to prospective planning applicants to provide background information about their proposed site boundary. Many factors are used by the Council to determine if a site location is suitable for planning and the “pre-planning reports” available on this website highlight the suitability based on several criteria. For example, if a site boundary is located within a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), then it may impact the planning decision. These reports let you know if your proposed site is within an SAC as well as numerous other lookup layers of information, and you can decide from there if it is worthwhile to proceed with an application for planning permission.
It is quick an easy to create your free pre-planning report. You can use the Create Report form and use the map to highlight your proposed site boundary. Once you submit your request, it will take a few seconds to build your report. You will also receive an email with a link to your report so you can revisit the report at a later time.

The lookup layers used in these pre-planning reports are provided "as is" by Galway County Council and many 3rd party data providers. At all times, Galway County Council aims to provide the most up to date version of the data, but data omissions may occur from time to time and this is outside the control of the Council. For example, the Council is reusing 3rd party data from web services that may not always be up to date. For this reason, the service is offered as an information service and you should always consult the Council in advance of applying for planning permission. The Council is not responsible if any lookup layers return outdated information in your pre-planning report.
